This 1936-D Rhode Island commemorative half dollar commemorates the 300th anniversary of the founding of Providence, Rhode Island, by Roger Williams. The obverse depicts Roger Williams arriving in a canoe and being greeted by a Native American on the shore. The reverse features the state seal of Rhode Island, with a central anchor and the word “HOPE”. These coins were designed by John Howard Benson and Arthur Graham Carey and are composed of 90% silver.
