The 1925 California Diamond Jubilee Half Dollar is one of the collector favorites amongst early commemorative coins. The issue was authorized to mark the 75th anniversary of California? S statehood and featured imagery recalling the famous gold rush. The obverse the coin features a kneeling figure of a forty-niner as he pans for gold. Inscriptions include Liberty, In God We Trust, California Diamond Jubilee and 1925. The reverse features an image of a grizzly bear, which comes from the state emblem of California. Inscriptions read E Pluribus Unum, ? United States of America? Both the obverse and reverse of the California Half Dollar were designed by sculptor Joseph Mora. Authorization was provided to strike up to 300,000 coins. Production took place at the San Francisco Mint, where 150,000 coins were produced. Distribution was handled by the San Francisco Citizens? Offered here is a 1927 Vermont Commemorative Half Dollar. It is graded by PCGS as MS-64. The coin in the above pictures is the one you will receive. The 1927 Vermont silver half dollar was struck to comemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Bennington. This beautifully executed design featured founder and Green Mountain Boy Ira Allen on the obverse and a Canada lynx on the reverse. Interestingly, there was some talk of striking both silver and gold commemoratives of this issue. Unfortunately, the gold commem idea was dropped. Today, the Vermont is one of the rarer coins in the commemorative series. The Vermont has an excellent early price history, particularly in the 1960 to 1980 time frame when it was one of the more expensive coins in the series, and rightly so, because it truly is one of the rarer issues. Indeed, I know of no significant hoards or large quantities that have ever been available. Most Vermonts have frosty luster and though the relief is very high, strike doesn’t seem to ever be a problem.

This listing is for one (1) 1920 Pilgrim Tercentenary Commemorative Silver Half Dollar graded MS-64 by NGC in a brown label holder. I’ve been looking for the perfect one and I’m getting closer. This one is the runner-up. Of course I thought it should have been a star, but I always think that. I love that the tone on the reverse makes it look like a stormy night at sea. This listing is for one (1) 1918 Lincoln – Illinois Centennial Commemorative Silver Half Dollar graded MS-64 by NGC. I love the darker coins for some reason. Better eye appeal that is more natural. I’m not sure where this one was kept all these years, but it kept well. The details in the devices are crisp and the fields are pretty clear. Of course the pics are all courtesy of my Craptacular equipment and NGC Imaging. It wasn’t too hard to get the deep tone and nice luster shown on this coin. It still looks way better in hand.
