A genuine 1937 Roanoke Island North Carolina 350th Anniversary Commemorative Silver Half Dollar Coin, in Uncirculated Mint State Condition. This 90% silver commemorative half dollar was struck to mark the 350th anniversary of the Roanoke Colony’s founding. It was among the first English attempts to establish a permanent settlement in the New World. But it became the “Lost Colony” when its settlers disappeared without a trace. The obverse shows a portrait of colony founder Sir Walter Raleigh. On the reverse, Ellinor Dare holds her daughter, Virginia Dare – the first child of English parents to be born in America.
