Hi, I’m Jonas Denenberg, and I run Coins with a Human Touch. To you, they’re just “bigshrimp9700″-no profile picture. For you to get to know me, I wanted to share the story about how my hobby grew beyond my wildest dreams, and how things thoroughly got out of hand. I think I probably got into coin collecting when I was six. My father was rummaging through 1980s keepsakes from his childhood and pulled out a half-finished collection of Lincoln Cents. I thought this was so cool, because as we all know, the 1980s were a long, long time ago (sorry old guys). So, we went to Barnes and Noble do those still exist? And bought a few coin folders to start my collection. I spent many years having lots of fun searching through my father’s change, attempting to fill every hole, although I never quite found the 1909-S VDB.. CONTINUED: Everything changed one day at my grandfather’s house. He had just unearthed a collection his father had stashed away, and what I saw inside shocked me: There were two-cent coins, large cents, three-cent nickels, and more. I hadn’t even known these existed, so you can imagine my surprise to learn that we used to have pennies larger than a quarter and nickels that were only worth three cents. I was hoping that my grandfather would let me keep just one coin-but to my amazement he gave me the entire collection. Teaching a class at the Annandale Coin Show December 14, 2019. Back home, my parents helped me order a Whitman Red Book and a stack of 2×2 flips. I spent days researching, cataloging, and carefully housing the coins. I learned a lot-not just about what I had, but about countless other fascinating coins I knew I had to own someday. I joined the Virginia Numismatic Association, the American Numismatic Association, and became a charter member of the Fairfax Coin Club when it launched in 2017. Fast forward to 2021. I was bored at home because, well… , and by this point I had acquired countless coins. So, I took a few spare Barber Half Dollars that I had and made a post listing them for sale. From there, things exploded. I built a following on Instagram and gained new customers, from people I knew in person to multi-million dollar and even billion-dollar corporations. Keep in mind that at this point I was 14! Things kept growing and growing and growing. I went to every coin show in our area in search of inventory. Even this proved to not be enough. Taking the train to Minot, ND December 12, 2024. By 15, I was traveling around the U. On my own to source inventory at shows. But within a year, I was hitting as many as ten shows a month. A typical trip might mean Alabama one day, New Jersey the next, or Denver one weekend and Omaha by train the next day. Once again, you all surpassed expectations, fueling even more growth and travel. It is not uncommon for me to have 50 to 100 orders in a day! To keep up with this demand, I now attend over 100 coin shows a year sourcing inventory from across the United States. A typical week might look like a show in Arkansas on Friday, Seattle on Saturday, and Cincinnati on Sunday. I do this while going to college full-time at Michigan Tech, and juggling a few other business ventures too. It’s a lot! What began as a childhood hobby has grown into a full-fledged business that still carries the same excitement I felt when I first opened that old Lincoln Cent folder. I try to respond quickly and to the best of my ability. I really do try to live up to the Coins with a Human Touch name by providing good, fair, high quality service. And if you ever see me in person, please stop and say hi! I look forward to helping you find the next coin that makes your collection and your story shine. Please, take a close look at the photos. I do not edit or touch up the photos, besides cropping out the background. I do my best to make sure they accurately portray the item, I do not attempt to hide defects or issues. As I list thousands of items a month, I do not provide extended descriptions for most coins as it’s simply impossible unless I used AI, which… However, I do try to give a solid overview in the item title, and additionally I try my best to point out any defects in the item title.
