The 1927 Vermont Sesquicentennial half dollar is a Philadelphia-mint issue struck to commemorate Vermont’s 150th anniversary; this example is graded MS 65 by NGC and carries a CAC Green sticker. Designed by Chester Beach, it is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, weighs 12.5 g (containing 0.36169 troy oz of silver), measures 30.6 mm in diameter, and has a reeded edge. Of the 162,013 coins struck, 812 are certified at MS 65 by NGC (with 352 graded higher), and CAC has approved 185 at MS 65 (with fewer than 200 higher). The strike is exceptionally strong, yielding sharp, well-defined devices, while the surfaces exhibit lovely, vintage-toned accents across both sides with brilliant mint luster appropriate for a gem quality commemorative. Surfaces: Lovely eye appealing tones on both sides with excellent lustrous surfaces for the grade. Appeal: A one year / one mint Gem grded coin making this much tougher as a type coin with beautiful vintage eye appeal and blessed by CAC. About the Vermont Sesquicentennial Commemorative Coin. The Vermont Sesquicentennial half dollar was struck in 1927 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Vermont’s declaration of independence in 1777 and the American victory at the Battle of Bennington that same year. Designed by Charles Keck, the obverse features a portrait of Ira Allen, founder of Vermont, while the reverse depicts a walking catamount-a reference to the Catamount Tavern where the Green Mountain Boys gathered. Each half dollar has a diameter of 30.61 mm, weighs 12.50 g (containing 0.36169 troy oz of silver), and carries the standard 90% silver-10% copper composition with a reeded edge.
