1936 Elgin Commemorative Half Dollar NGC MS64 Old Holder Vintage Coin
Pleasantly toned Near Gem coin with very lovely shades of golden honey, golden-russet, mahogany, and champagne. Both sides are toned but the reverse is more of a straight evenly distributed champagne. We feel this specimen is excellent for the grade and could easily be a canidate for reconsideration. We’ve seen coins at MS65 and higher not come as clean as this item. The surfaces are overall very clean and the devices are crisp and sharply struck. Both sides echo strong mint luster for an overall effect of great eye appeal. This is a really nice original coin and we’d expect it to get snatched up quickly! Feel free to request other photos and we’d be happy to provide. We shot a couple sets with different lighting characteristics but no filtering or doctoring – all natural photos! 1936 Elgin (Illinois) Commemorative Fifty Cent Piece Graded by NGC at MS64 (Near Gem). ABOUT THE ELGIN COMMEMORATIVE HALF DOLLAR. The Elgin, Illinois, Centennial half dollar was a fifty-cent commemorative coin issued by the United States Bureau of the Mint in 1936, part of the wave of commemoratives authorized by Congress and struck that year. Intended to commemorate the centennial of the founding of Elgin, the piece was designed by local sculptor Trygve Rovelstad. The obverse depicts an idealized head of a pioneer man. The reverse shows a grouping of pioneers, and is based upon a sculptural group that Rovelstad hoped to build as a memorial to those who settled Illinois, but which was not erected in his lifetime.
